"Children and Mirrors" A Parable

Any parents with kids will be able to understand this. Imagine you have a mirror and children. After your children eat, as they go by playing, they always touch /use this mirror. Soon enough with peanut butter fingers and messy finger marks , you can't see your reflection in the mirror. A mirror is no good unless you can use it to see your reflection. It doesn't work. So you go and get the cleaner to wipe the mirror clean. Soon enough after time and again if cleaning the mirror you will be low on cleaner. So maybe you fill it with a little water to make it last longer. The chemical makeup of the cleaner cuts through the dirt, grime and smudges. Imagine if you continued to fill the cleaner with water over time. You would soon get a cleaner that doesn't work and a mirror that shows no reflection. The great thing about a mirror such as this is we can't tell how ugly we are https://www.facebook.com/images/emoji.php/v9/fd0/1/16/1f602.png");">😂. In the spiritual, as holiness, sanctification and the gospel are watered-down, you'll get a spiritual cleaner, the Holy Spirit who can't function properly in the church and the lives of the people. This is concerning seeing as Paul tells us to examine ourselves. If the spiritual mirror is covered with grime and the cleaner is watered down, we can never see our spiritual uglyness. This is both a problem in the church, but unfortunately, it's also a desire in the church. People want to feel comfortable. Best way to do that is to hide the truth, we're all ugly without Christ.
